Program Benefits:

Access to a Program Advocate, a designated staff member who specifically supports you, your mentee, and the mentee’s family to ensure the mentoring relationship is positively growing.
Access to the Activities Pass, which provides discounts to your match from area businesses and organizations who support local mentoring opportunities.
Access to free monthly events, our most popular events being the Annual BBQ with the Duluth Noon Optimist Club, the Holiday Party with the Kiwanis Club of Friendly Duluth, and Mentor Appreciation Night with the UMD Men’s Bulldog Hockey Team.

Expectations of Mentors:

Develop a relationship with your mentee, spending 8-12 hours a month together for at least one year in a mentoring relationship.
Approach mentoring with an open mind and a willingness to learn.
Be a responsible program volunteer, following all policies outlined in New Mentor Training.
Consistently document time spent with your mentee in Civicore, and maintain regular contact with your Program Advocate.

Screening and Application Process to mentoring

It may take up to 3 months to complete the screening and matching process.

Each mentor will complete the following steps:

Initial Interview
Written Application
Reference Checks
Personal Screening Interview(s)
Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Report
New Mentor Training (check home page for latest dates)
Parent Mentor Meeting
Match Meeting

Mentor North reserves the right to deny a mentor applicant at any time during the application process. Decisions to deny an applicant are final, there is no appeal process. Mentor North reserve the right not to disclose the reason for mentor denials to the applicant.
