Become a Mentor

My mentee and I attended the UMD Women’s hockey game together. She had never seen a hockey game before and got to enjoy her first game in a suite with snacks! She really enjoyed having the opportunity to try something new.
My mentee and I went to the park and after playing some basketball, he wanted to do some parkour over at the playground! We each took turns making up a course that the other had to follow. My mentee pretty quickly put me to shame with how good he was, but it was a blast!
My mentee and I did a board game hangout together. We both wanted to try chess so we went to Wussow’s cafe where I knew they hosted chess events every week.
My mentee and I went to Stars on Ice which was a first for both of us! I’m so glad I got involved. There is no end to the fun stuff we can do and it has been a real uplifting volunteer activity to say the least.
For something special, my mentee showed me a bunch of games he likes to play on the Xbox. We played through all of the ones we could play together and he was excited to have me experience some of the games he had talked about in the past. We had a great time!
My mentee wanted to put together a care package for a friend of hers that was going through a rough time. After picking out some items to put in the basket, we went back to my house to assemble the gift. After lunch we dropped off the care package at her friend’s house. She was giddy and beaming with excitement to give them the gift. I haven’t seen her this happy in a LONG time. It was really, really nice to see her act like a kid again.
