Mentor Superior provides mentoring relationships for youth ages 5-17 in the Superior area. The youth enrollment process and information about becoming a mentor for this program are outlined below. Please contact Mentor North with any questions.

Youth Enrollment

Benefits to Being a Mentee:

  • You develop a positive, caring relationship with an adult who listens to you, respects you, and is there to support you.
  • You can try new activities while also sharing your favorite hobbies and interests with your mentor.
  • You learn more about yourself!

Expectations of Mentees:

  • Develop a relationship with your mentor, spending a minimum of 4 hours per month together for at least one year in a mentoring relationship.
  • Approach mentoring with an open mind and willingness to learn.
  • Share with your mentor about your day, your interest and your goals.
  • Share with your parent, caregiver, and your program advocate about how the relationship is going with your mentor.

Expectations for Parents/Guardians:

  • Check in with the mentor regarding your youth’s progress, and communicate regularly with them.
  • Check in with your youth regarding the match. What did you do with your mentor today? What do you and your mentor want to try next?
  • Keep in regular contact and respond to Program Advocates, updating the program about how the match is going from your perspective.
    keep all contact records updated, including phone, address, and email.
  • Meet with Program Advocates on a yearly basis to provide updates to bio’s, and to provide feedback to the program for evaluation.

Benefits to Mentoring:

  • Mentoring allows you to develop a relationship with a youth, and to watch their growth and development over time.
  • Mentoring allows you to learn about yourself.
  • Mentoring is a way to give back and improve the community.

Program Benefits:

  • Access to a Program Advocate, a designated staff member who specifically supports you, your mentee, and the mentee’s family to ensure the mentoring relationship is positively growing.
  • Access to the Activity Pass, which provides discounts to your match from area businesses and organizations who support local mentoring opportunities.
  • Access to free monthly events.
  • Connection with other mentors through the Mentor North Slack workspace.

Expectations of Mentors:

  • Develop a relationship with your mentee, spending a minimum of 4 hours a month together for at least one year in a mentoring relationship.
  • Approach mentoring with an open mind and a willingness to learn.
  • Be a responsible program volunteer, following all policies outlined in New Mentor Training.
  • Consistently document time spent with your mentee in CiviCore, and maintain regular contact with your Program Advocate.

Screening and Application Process To Mentoring

  • It may take up to 3 months to complete the screening and matching process.

Each Mentor Will Complete the Following Steps:

  • Initial Interview
  • Written Application
  • Reference Checks
  • Personal Screening Interview(s)
  • Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Report
  • New Mentor Training
  • Parent Mentor Meeting
  • Match Meeting
